29th January 2010Organised by crewmember Gary Oliver and members of the Newbiggin Fundraising Team, this event raised more than £400.00 towards the national annual SOS appeal. A barbecue, gift and home baked food stalls as well as raffle attracted large numbers to the boathouse on a very cold evening.

Funded by the Civil Service Motoring Association to celebrate their 75th anniversary the Atlantic 75 lifeboat arrived at Newbiggin in 1998 to replace the then station lifeboat Atlantic 21 B 554 "Kirklees". At the time it was the latest development of the B class, it has a manually operated self-righting mechanism and is capable of being beached in an emergency without sustaining damage to engines or steering gear. The Atlantic 75 is fitted with satalite navigation, VHF and carrys a comprehensive first aid kit it can be operated safely in daylight in a force 6/7 and at night in a force 5/6
